With the boost following overdrive, you get an increase in volume. Simply stated, you can set the boost to follow the overdrive circuit or to cascade into it. The real secret weapon of the V2 Caveman is the boost, and even more so, the flexibility allowed by selecting between the Pre/Post option for the boost. The only place they present a problem is in the neck position with humbuckers or P90s-they are great for lead work in this setting, but chords can tend to get a little muddy. Those same low mids sound absolutely huge on bridge-position humbuckers and P90s. As you would expect, it’s amazing with single coils and Filtertrons. This makes it especially great for classic rock riffs, big singing leads, and for thickening up thinner sounding guitars. As far as tone goes, the V2 Caveman is certainly pushed in the lower mids. The amount of distortion available in the V2 Caveman is pretty astounding it runs from barely broken up at the left of the dial, to more distortion than I could ever need when cranked all of the way to the right. The top-mounted jacks and clear knobs round out the great looking package. The Caveman is hand made in California, it looks great in a sparkly burnt sienna finish, and comes in a fur-lined box. The new Caveman Overdrive is a full-featured dual channel overdrive with an independent boost. Now, Oddfellow Effects is back with the entirely new Caveman Overdrive V2. No matter the good folks at Oddfellow rolled up their sleeves (no doubt made from animal pelts) and set about to re-discover fire. Like some boutique pedals, the Caveman was dissected by the DIY crew and found to be a modified version of an existing circuit.Īs anyone who has researched, played, and poked around inside a few pedals knows, a few careful parts substitutions or additions can make a massive change in the tone and performance of a pedal. The company arrived last year with the widely acclaimed original Cavemen Overdrive-a pedal that caught on quickly in the online gear forums and developed quite a long waiting list. Oddfellow Effects is rather new on the scene.
